Despite time restrictions at both buildings and a 5 hour drive, they were able to move me in promptly and all my items arrived safely and set up wonderfully. They were patient with my decorating requests to relocate items so I was all set up
The company did off a number "best and final" of $432.00. With that number, they sent over another contract explaining that I could not post a negative review. I then asked to speak to their lawyer or the owner of the company, as I was not going to sign another contract which would silence me. I was told the owner was out of the country and they did not have a lawyer on retainer. After the weekend, the company called and had a new number of $731, still with the caveat that I would need to sign a document that I would not post a negative review. So I opted for nothing, however, they did send me $165.60 total. I would also like to point out that I was not given the contract ahead of time to read through and was directed by the foreman to choose the "60 cents per pound option." I thought he was trustworthy and looking out for me. Multiple times I verbally said "I do not understand what this means" to him. The foreman, actually wrote on a post-it note "60 cents per pound per article" to show me what I am supposed to write. It was sneaky and poor business practice. If I had been given the contract ahead of time, I would have been able to make an informed decision and paid the additional fee for FULL Replacement coverage. My new job was reimbursing all moving expenses, why would I not choose to take full coverage? Don't be fooled by all of the positive reviews!
I will never use this company again & I have also told several of my friends not to use them. I reached out to Helix in April to set up a move for the end of June. I detailed each room & all larger pieces of furniture (went room-by-room while on the phone with Helix). I also informed them that we lived on the top floor of a 4-floor building with no elevator. They provided an estimate of 6hrs, 3 movers, 1 truck that also stated we would be billed at 15 min increments if the move was longer. This was for a 2-bedroom apt, I assumed & planned for the move to take longer. I emailed a few times after scheduling to provide updates & ask if any additional information was required from me. Was told there was not. Move Day: the 3 movers that arrived acted surprised that the building didn't have an elevator & we were on the top floor. This is the first thing I mentioned when scheduling & the physical estimate they bought with them also stated this. Loading the truck took from 9:00am until 1:30pm. I left at the same time the moving truck did. The new address is 20 - 25 mins from the old address. The movers did not arrive at the new address until 2:20pm with no explanation why it took almost an hour to arrive. At the time, I did not ask because I was still giving the benefit of the doubt. Regarding time, there is a discrepancy with the start time listed on the final invoice (had to email twice in order to receive a copy). The movers started moving items after 9:00am, but the estimate states the start time as 8:50am. They didn't call stating they had arrived on site until 8:56am. Before moving your stuff in, they have you have to pay for the move. I was aware of this prior to scheduling however, I was not aware that they would calculate 3 & 1/2 extra hours into how long the move would be based on the walking distance from the elevator to the unit. It's not a long walk & there was no foot traffic blocking the elevator or the hallway. Movers were able to park near the door to the elevator & given my key fob to avoid delays. I wanted the move finished so I just paid the remaining balance. I included the tip in my payment as I had always planned to do. I instantly regretted that decision. The care with which the movers originally put items into the moving truck completely evaporated. A clear container had leaked dish soap onto a box. The only way this could have happened is if the container were stacked upside down because the smaller container that was inside would not have spilled if not upside down or had been tossed around. The driver tried to make it seem like it was a packing issue on my end, but that container was secure before they touched it. This was the first issue/damaged item I noticed. Over the last few weeks of unpacking & organizing, I have noticed several other items that were broken or badly damaged during the move. One of my glass dry erase boards was shattered even though it was secure inside of one of my containers. I had to take my wooden cubby apart because it was unstable & swaying side to side. Turned out the spokes in the cubby snapped, which means it was pushed from the top instead of being picked up or pushed from the bottom. The side of my larger wooden display cubby is scratched (photo attached). Movers used the basket of my trike to move boxes from the truck. Would've been fine if they hadn't tossed heavier boxes in the basket. Because of this, I had to reattach & unbend the sides of the basket (not bent prior to this move). The spin base of my dance pole (photo attached) is not supposed to be removed & I can't reattach it. I am not even sure how it detached. The issue that prompted me to finally sit down & submit this review is in the first picture I included. That is my step exercise machine. It & the pole were not cheap. It had handles that attach to the step portion so you can do resistance arm curls as you move. The handle is completely ripped off. I have no idea where the handle is because it wasn't broken prior to the move & the movers didn't even mention breaking it. If you can, avoid Helix. Price $2,000+
